JOHOR BAHRU: Students at eight more schools in Pasir Gudang here are believed to have experienced breathing difficulties and vomiting early this morning.
The schools believed to be affected are SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort, SK Tanjung Puteri Resort, SK Pasir Putih 1, SK Pasir Gudang 2, SK Taman Pasir Putih 1, SMK Taman Megah Ria, SK Taman Rinting 2 and SMK Bandar Seri Alam.
Checks by Bernama found at least nine ambulances from Hospital Sultan Ismail and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department at the schools to transport the affected students.
There has been no confirmation on the number of students involved, but it is understood that the incident took place during the morning session and recess.
Some of the victims were taken to the Pasir Gudang Closed Stadium for early treatment.
The stadium was earlier used by the authorities as a monitoring operations centre for the case. The situation there appeared under control, with parents and guardians waiting patiently for an update on the condition of their children.
Several agencies have been stationed at the stadium to help victims from “hot areas” obtain early treatment.
These include the state Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, and medical officers from the health ministry and NGOs. - FMT
