Primary Industries Deputy Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin confirmed that he was called in by the police to assist in investigations over the role of his senior private secretary in a sex video clip scandal.
Shamsul said he was at the Malacca Contingent Police Headquarters at 7pm last night to give his statement and that the process took five hours.
“On June 13, I was contacted by police to assist in the investigations related to Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.
“...I have given information to explanations sought by the police. I wish to thank the police and investigating officer for the comfortable and good treatment throughout the process,” said Shamsul, who is also PKR information chief.
He added that he hoped for a speedy resolution to the case which has rocked the political establishment over the past week since several video clips showing two men - one of them resembling Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali - committing sex acts in a hotel room were mysteriously circulated to the press and several PKR leaders, along with documents on alleged fund transfer.
Haziq, who is also Santubong PKR Youth chief, later released a recording in which he confirmed that he was one of the men in the video and claimed his sexual partner was indeed Azmin. Azmin had since denied all allegations and deemed the videos and purported bank documents as an attempt to smear his name and reputation.
Shamsul later expressed surprise at the actions of his aide, who was suspended by the deputy minister with immediate effect.
The police, MACC and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have all launched investigations into the case.
It was reported that Haziq was arrested last evening prior to boarding a flight at KLIA. He is being investigated under four laws, including Section 377B of the Penal Code for “carnal intercourse against the order of nature” and Section 292 for distribution of obscene materials. - Mkini
