Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad does not believe that the sex videos implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali are real.
He also described the dissemination of such sex videos as being motivated by a political agenda carried out by certain parties.
"I do not believe this is genuine," Mahathir told reporters at the One Million Memories Night at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam today.
"Nowadays, we can do a lot of things with videos and pictures if we are good at it.
"Perhaps one day you will see a lewd picture of me like that. It would be very funny."
Asked if he had met with Azmin since the scandal broke, Mahathir said he had, for the purpose of a cabinet meeting, and that things were normal between them.
"I'm not so stupid as to believe these things. I think this is cooked up by somebody who has a political agenda. That's all.
"This is dirty work. If people can't fight with you properly they shouldn't have to resort to this sort of thing.
"Keep politics a little bit cleaner. If you go in this direction, then everyday people can show lewd pictures," he said.
Mahathir also slammed Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz for claiming to be of the men shown in the video.
"It is deliberate. If it was not, why would he confess? Normally, someone in that position would be ashamed. This guy is not shy," he said.
"'I am the one. I am the one who did it with the minister' he says. What does that tell you?
"I don't know who is behind it, but these kinds of methods should not exist in Malaysia."
Earlier today, Azmin denounced the video clips allegedly depicting him and another man engaging in sexual relations, which were systematically distributed to reporters and PKR members.
The minister characterised the campaign as a "nefarious plot" to destroy his political career. - Mkini
