PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have much to be thankful for this Hari Raya Aidilfitri, in particular the stability of the nation that has allowed Muslims to carry out a month of fasting without any untoward incidents, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic).
He also attributed this stability to the entire working force in the country – locals and foreigners alike – and that their efforts should be recognised.
"In enjoying all this, we need to remember that the comforts which are with us are due to the toil and sweat of foreigners who work for us. They are the ones who have toiled and sweat so that the necessities reach us, which includes food," he said.
"Without them, our country will continue to be a poor nation which cannot be developed," he added in his Hari Raya Aidifitri greeting which was aired live on major networks and media channels at 8.45pm on Tuesday. (June 4).

He noted that the many comforts which Muslims enjoy are not just from their own efforts – but those of foreigners and others as well.

"Reflect, when we are happy with our fate, what is the level of development of our nation if there are no foreigners but only Muslims living in this blessed country," he said.
Dr Mahathir also called on Muslims here to learn to control their urges – which they had successfully done during the month of Ramadan.
He added that it would be a loss for Muslims if they forget the lessons they had learned during the fasting month.
"Must we only control our urges during the fasting month? Surely, we must also control our urges at other times. Muslims will be falter and fail if they give in to their urges at other times," he added.- Star
