MACC officers pledge support for Latheefa, the 10th outsider to head agency

Latheefa Koya is the 13th MACC chief commissioner.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers will give their full support to their new chief commissioner Latheefa Koya, its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said today.
“We will provide all the support for her to discharge her duties effectively and efficiently,” he said.
Azam said it was common for MACC to be led by those outside the agency.
Latheefa, a lawyer, replaced Mohd Shukri Abdull, whose contract was allowed to expire ahead of its deadline on May 17, 2020.
She will serve as MACC chief for two years beginning June 1.
Azam said that since the inception of the Anti-Corruption Agency in 1967 and later the MACC in 2009, 10 of the 13 heads, including Latheefa, were outsiders.
The three MACC officers who rose to lead the agency were Ahmad Said, Abu Kassim Mohamed and Shukri.

Section 5 of the MACC Act states that the king appoints the chief commissioner for a certain period on terms specified in the contract. - FMT
