Identities of four Myanmar workers killed in Tanjung Bungah landslide confirmed

GEORGE TOWN: The identities of four Myanmar nationals killed in a landslide while constructing a retaining wall at a resort in Jalan Batu Feringghi in Tanjung Bungah on Tuesday (June 25), have been confirmed.
North East district police chief ACP Che Zaimani Che Awang said they are Mg Seng Pya, 38, Nai Cho Inn, 49, Mg Htwe, 38 and Aung Tung Aye, 49.
It was earlier reported that all four of them did not have legal documents with them when their bodies were recovered after the tragedy struck at 9.21pm on Tuesday (June 26).
Initial investigations found that the resort owner had contracted Aung to build a retaining wall, after realising that the hill separating the resort and Jalan Batu Ferringhi had signs of erosion.

Aung, who has been working as part of the resort's maintenance staff for almost three years, then hired three of his friends to assist with the job.

The resort owner does not know the other three workers.
Meanwhile, Penang welfare, caring society and environment committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the Myanmar Embassy will arrange for the bodies to be claimed.- Star
