Forensic task force to determine authenticity of sex video

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Mansor.
KUALA LUMPUR: A forensic task force is working on determining the authenticity of sex videos allegedly implicating Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Mansor.
At a press conference today after an event at Bukit Aman, Mazlan said this was part of the police’s investigations into the matter.
However, he declined to elaborate on details of the investigations, including whether Azmin has had his statement taken.
Azmin had said yesterday police had contacted him and he would only be able to meet them today.
Asked about the challenges they faced in this case, Mazlan said all investigations had their challenges, “especially when they involve digital (matters) and videos”.
He said police had set up a task force to carry out the investigations, including senior police personnel and those from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and other agencies.
So far, he said there was no need to seek foreign expertise.
Mazlan said police had so far recorded 21 statements.
On Haziq Aziz, the PKR youth leader who confessed to being one of the two men in the video, Mazlan said even though Haziq’s passport was not confiscated, they had an agreement that he would not leave the country.
Haziq had been arrested on Friday night but was released on police bail the next day.
Last week, Haziq admitted that he was one of two men filmed engaging in homosexual acts at a hotel in Sandakan last month, an allegation PKR deputy president Azmin strongly denied.
Earlier, Mazlan witnessed the handing over of duties to Bukit Aman’s new Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Mohd Zakaria Ahmad from the acting chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin. - FMT
