PETALING JAYA: Fugitive financier Low Taek Jho has denied allegations made during the SRC court proceedings that he is related to former SRC secretary Goh Gaik Kim.
Low, or better known as Jho Low, described the claim as”demonstrably false”.
A press statement released through his US lawyers today said: “There is no family relationship between Mr Low or any of his family members with the above mentioned Goh Gaik Kim.
“It is disappointing that counsel has endeavoured to falsely implicate Mr Low’s family.
“It is also disappointing that the media has reported such allegations as true, quoting unnamed sources rather than checking directly.”
The statement was issued by Wells Haslem Mayhew Strategic Public Affairs based in Sydney, Australia.
The Edge Financial Daily reported today that Goh, who had been the company secretary of TRX City Sdn Bhd since end-March 2011, is the Low’s aunt.
It quoted sources as saying she is the younger sister of Low’s mother, Evelyn Goh Gaik Ewe.
It said checks showed that she was also the company secretary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), TRX City’s parent, after being appointed at end-March 2011 as well.
However, the paper said research indicated she likely left 1MDB in early April 2016, when Chen Kai Hong was appointed to succeed her. - FMT
