Johari to hand over everything on 'extortion' bid to cops tomorrow

Johari Abdul today announced that he will turn over documents pertaining to an alleged extortion bid against PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to the police at 10am tomorrow morning.
"I will surrender everything to the police and Bukit Aman tomorrow. Let them investigate it," said the Sungai Petani MP, who had been summoned by police over the matter.
As Johari told Malaysiakini, he will be handing over the book manuscript by Yahaya Ismail, which outlines why Anwar is not fit to be the prime minister, along with WhatsApp conversations with the author.
On Thursday, Yahaya dismissed Johari's claim of attempted extortion when Anwar was offered the chance to buy the copyright of the manuscript for RM400,000.
According to Johari, the author had contacted him, saying he wanted to meet with the PKR president.
"He informed me that he has completed the book and someone has offered him RM400,000 for it.
"If Anwar ups the price, he is willing to give the book to Anwar. Otherwise, he will give it to the person willing to publish the book," he had said.
Yahaya admitted to contacting Johari to negotiate selling the manuscript to Anwar, but denied that it was extortion.
He claimed to have merely offered Anwar and Johari a chance to purchase the copyright, which he said is "a norm in the publishing industry."
For the record, Anwar spent almost a decade behind bars following sodomy and corruption charges levied against him in 1998 and again 2014.
He maintained his innocence, and claimed the charges and subsequent convictions were politically motivated.
Anwar received a royal pardon after when Pakatan Harapan took over the federal government last May. - Mkini
