PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic) has chided the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Pakatan Harapan government for repeatedly accusing him of using 1Malaysia Development Berhad money (1MDB) to purchase luxury cars.
Najib said this following MACC's civil forfeiture suit filed against 41 parties including Naza Quest Auto, a subsidiary of Naza Group.
"The 'luxury' cars that Pakatan accuse me of buying are Chevrolet branded cars costing RM67,000.
"That wasn't even purchased for my personal use but for certain non-governmental organisations to do charity work," he said in a Facebook on Friday (June 21).
Najib included a news report of Naza Group explaining that the RM270,000 they received from Najib was for the purchase for four Chevrolet cars between 2012 and 2013.
"The Pakatan government is weird. Naza was paid for selling cars but they are accused of money laundering," Najib said.
MACC announced Friday that it had filed civil forfeiture action against 41 recipients and entities to recover RM270mil related to 1MDB from Najib's personal account.
MACC chief Latheefa Koya said the monies that were disbursed to these 41 recipients and entities all came from Najib's personal bank account.
The suit was filed under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.- Star
