PKR sec-gen: We didn't give out data for sex videos, but...

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said the data of party members are available internally upon request and there is no secret about it.
He said PKR had made the decision during the party election in 2018 to provide these details, including the members' addresses and contact numbers, to those who were interested to stand for posts or their machinery.
It was made to provide a level playing field to all candidates, he told Malaysiakini when contacted.
Saifuddin said it is normal for candidates to obtain the data of members before offering themselves to contest in the party election.
"So, they just have to write to the party headquarters and PKR will just give (these data).
"They can either write in themselves or (have) their team to get the data from state leadership or the wings. It can be done openly and there is no secret about it.
"This is not something extraordinary, it is allowed in the party," he added.
He was responding to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali who demanded that PKR leadership should explain why those who circulated sex videos implicating him had the contact numbers of all branch leaders.
Azmin (photo) said even he did not have access to such information.
Saifuddin also denied that PKR headquarters leaked out the data for the purpose of circulating the sex videos.
"Whether the party headquarters was responsible or involved in releasing these data to those who circulated (the sex videos), the answer is 'no'," he said.
Azmin came under the spotlight after Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz confessed that he and Azmin were the individuals in the sex videos.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin also told Malaysiakini that PKR will leave the investigation on the sex videos to the authorities.
He said the decision was made by the political bureau last Wednesday following lengthy discussion, hours after the sex videos went viral on the social media.
"If there is any latest development, if there is a lead, we are open to that," he said on whether the party will launch an internal probe against Azmin.
"This is not the decision of Saifuddin or (PKR president) Anwar Ibrahim. This is the decision of the political bureau."
Saifuddin also said the cabinet did not discuss on the sex videos last Wednesday.
"At that moment, that was (only) few hours after the leak (of the sex videos), so we thought of focussing on other matters," said the domestic trade, co-operative and consumer affairs minister.
Saifuddin said it is up to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad whether to raise this matter at the next cabinet meeting.  - Mkini
