Activist group Otai Reformis has called on Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali to be placed on leave pending police and MACC probes in relation to leaked sex video clips and an alleged fund transfer purportedly implicating him.
“This is to preserve the good name of the Pakatan Harapan government,” Otai Reformis chairperson Dr Idris Ahmad said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
The group also criticised Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the latter was quick to dismiss the leaked clips as likely fake even before their authenticity has been established.
They said this rection was much different from how Mahathir treated his then deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim when the latter was accused of sodomy in 1998.
"Mahathir's actions are very different than in 1998, when Anwar was sacked (as deputy prime minister) and punished, before police completed investigations and the courts passed judgement.
"In 2019, Mahathir's statement (on Azmin) is very different.
"We hope Mahathir does not have 'double standards' and take a one-sided approach to the matter," he said.
