PORT DICKSON: A 26-year-old woman from Jempol here became the second victim in the state to die in the last three days from methanol poisoning after consuming imported beer.
K. Rathika, who was receiving treatment at the Port Dickson Hospital, died at 8.36am Thursday (June 20).
A 27-year-old Myanmar national Amerec Parsad died at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban on Monday (June 17) after he was believed to have consumed the same canned beverage.
Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohammed said three other individuals who drank the same type of beer were admitted to the Port Dickson Hospital on Wednesday (June 19) evening.
One is a 50-year-old woman who has since been moved to the Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah.
“Her family members said the woman lost consciousness after drinking beer of the Miludeer label,” he said.
He said the condition of two others admitted at the Port Dickson Hospital was stable.
“We have detained two individuals from Taman Indah in Lukut whom we believed sold the beer to the victims,” he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects bought 24 Miludeer beer cans from another individual for RM140 before selling them to the public.
He said the police and the Health Department have inspected 19 premises in the area and have seized 13 cans of the same label in a shop in Lukut.
“We will continue with the operations to seize all cans with the said label to prevent more such cases,” he added.- Star
