NSK Trade City Sdn Bhd (NSK) has issued a public apology after one of its supermarkets allegedly displayed frog meat for sale.
In a statement yesterday, NSK said it was aware of the severity of the issue.
Immediate action has also been taken to ensure the incident is not repeated, it added.
“We apologise for the incident that happened on Oct 24. We understand the seriousness of this issue and immediate action has been taken.
“A stern warning has also been given to the workers involved," it said.
The alleged “frog meat”, displayed along with other items in NSK Selayang, went viral on social media.
The display was removed after a complaint was made to the staff on Oct 24.
It is understood that further investigations by NSK found that the meat distributor sent the item in question together with other orders and placed it in the wet goods section.
The employee who manages the section put the meat on display without knowing it was frog meat.
NSK gave its assurance that the incident would not reoccur.
The company also confirmed with Malaysiakini that their supermarkets have never ordered frog meat to be sold.
"We did not order the (frog) meat and have never sold it, even in the non-halal section,” a spokesperson said. - Mkini
