Cops probing death of driver found beaten, bound after road accident

Police are investigating a case where a man was tied up and beaten to death in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2, Kajang last night.

The assault is alleged to have been retaliation over an accident involving the man.

According to Kajang district police, preliminary investigations found that a car driven by the victim had crashed into a fence in the residential area.

Witnesses told police that a group of men then pulled the driver out of the car and assaulted him.

“The victim's hands were then tied while he was lying in the middle of the road near the vehicle.

“When the police patrol vehicle arrived at the scene of the incident, all individuals who were there had left,” the police said in a statement.

By the time the ambulance arrived, the victim had died, they added.

Police said it was believed that the victim was involved in a traffic accident nearby and had fled the scene but was chased by the public.

However, they said no police report had been made over the initial accident and they were still investigating to determine a motive for the death.

Social media postings alleged that the victim was involved in a hit-and-run.

Five arrested

Police arrested five suspects between the age of 22 and 52 in Semenyih and Berenang during the early hours of today.

Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code which covers murder while the Traffic Division also opened an investigation under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act 1987, which covers death by reckless or dangerous driving.

People with information about the incident can directly contact the investigating officer Redzuan Mat Salleh at 013-7854100 or Ammar Tahir an inspector from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 018-2194013. - Mkini
