An aide to Dr Mahathir Mohamad has refuted rumours that the former prime minister is critically ill, and he has photos to prove it.
In the photos, the 98-year-old was seen reading today’s newspapers and doing some writing.
According to the aide, Mahathir, who was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 26, is recovering from infection.
"I have some updates from IJN with regards to Mahathir's condition.
"Mahathir is still being treated and is in the process of recovering from infection," said the aide.
The photos were also shared on Mahathir’s social media.
The nonagenarian was supposed to attend the hearing of his defamation suit against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Feb 13.
This is over the alleged defamatory statements about the “kutty” issue.
The hearing has been adjourned to July 19.
The nation's longest-serving prime minister has a history of heart illnesses and has undergone several heart surgeries in the past.
