Hadi issues reminders to Muslims, rulers included

Abdul Hadi Awang remains unfazed by calls for action over his earlier remarks regarding the Federal Court’s decision to nullify the validity of Kelantan’s 16 syariah criminal provisions.

In his latest Facebook post, the PAS president reiterated his stand, saying he was issuing a reminder to all Muslims to safeguard their faith, including judges, lawyers and politicians.

“What more rulers, to have the vision, to be wise in viewing the hereafter, and not just the interests in this world alone,” he added.

Last week, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who is also the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs chairperson, urged all quarters to remain calm as well as to respect the court’s ruling and the Federal Constitution.

Meanwhile, Hadi also said Islam should be prioritised and cautioned that if anything apart from the religion is upheld, “all will not be safe”.

As for the Federal Constitution, the veteran politician said it was crafted by colonisers who plotted an independence which hoodwinked the Muslims to never give power to Islam.

“Too many time bombs were put in place with the aim of destroying religion, race, language and the motherland,” he added.

Hadi said there should be efforts to “unravel” this colonial bind.

Colonial elements

Citing numerous Quranic verses, the PAS president reminded those with power and positions, that their actions would be questioned in the grave.

“We have been entrapped by colonisers (non-Muslims) to be influenced by their advice which runs contrary to Allah’s guidance,” he added.

According to Hadi, the Federal Constitution contained elements which still “colonise” the minds of Muslims to lead them astray from Islam.

“We should not read the Constitution by being bound by what is expressed (tersurat).

“Use your wisdom to understand what is ‘implied’ (tersirat)... to use the right to amend it to follow the guidance of Allah,” he added.

Hadi then recalled the “wisdom” of judges in the past concerning this issue, including the late Mohamed Salleh Abas.

Previously, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had expressed regret that certain parties were politicising the court decision and assured that it would not dilute the powers of the syariah court.
