IGP warns against extreme provocation over Kelantan Syariah criminal law verdict

IPOH: Police are reminding all parties not to engage in extreme provocation regarding the Kelantan Syariah Criminal law challenge results, especially on social media, says Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

He said such actions would only create unrest, especially when they touch on aspects of religion, race and royal institutions.

He said on Wednesday (Feb 14), "This matter (provocation) undermines public order, with some disputing the decision made by the court. "

Razarudin said so far, police have received three reports of death threats on social media from Nik Elin Zurina.

"Of the three investigation papers, one has been sent to the Attorney General's Department.

"The other two are still under investigation, and I have been informed that the police have identified who was involved in sending the threats," he said.

Last Friday, the Federal Court declared 16 out of 18 provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Enactment to be null and void.

Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter Tengku Yasmin Natasha Tengku Abdul Rahman made the legal challenge on the grounds that the provisions were invalid due to the Kelantan state legal authority having no power to enact such laws. - Star
