KUALA LUMPUR: Maxis Bhd is investigating the validity of an alleged cybersecurity breach to its systems.
Earlier today, technology portals reported that the hacker group known as ”R00TK1T ISC Team” claimed it had gained access to Maxis’s data.
In a statement, Maxis said that while it did not identify anything related to its own systems, it had identified a “suspected incident involving unauthorised access” to one of its third-party vendor systems.
The telecommunications service provider said this system “resides outside of Maxis’ internal network environment”.
Maxis said it was working with the third-party vendor to investigate the issue further, adding that the relevant authorities had been informed.
Maxis said additional defence measures were being put in place to enhance the robustness of its systems and to reduce further risk.
“Our customers’ privacy and security are of the utmost importance to us. Our ongoing priority is a thorough assessment and containment,” it added.
Maxis said it would continue to provide necessary updates on the investigation. - FMT
