Thai police: Malaysians driving in Thailand must follow country's road law

Malaysians driving in Thailand have been advised to abide by the latter’s road rules and regulations.

Betong district police chief Jirawat Dooding urged drivers of foreign private vehicles and tour buses to park their vehicles in the car park provided to avoid congestion and inconvenience to other road users.

Furthermore, he advised vehicle owners to ensure they have valid vehicle documents.

"All drivers should respect and obey the rules and laws of the road to avoid being fined or jailed," he said.

This comes after the recent arrest of a Malaysian tour bus driver for violating traffic laws.

Initially, Jirawat said the 46-year-old man did not park his vehicle in the designated area, and when the police conducted further checks, he attempted to flee.

“Further investigation found that the man used a Malaysian-registered vehicle and entered Thailand without valid documents," he added.

On Feb 13, the man was brought to the Betong Court which allowed the man to be bailed at 50,000 baht with one surety with additional conditions that he could not leave Thailand for three months and was required to wear a Global Positioning System (GPS) bracelet.

He also has to report to the Betong police station once a month.
