100 women’s champions to be named

 

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the 100 Tokoh Wanita do not have to be affiliated with any political party or even any association.

PETALING JAYA: The government is to appoint 100 women’s champions (Tokoh Wanita) who will be allocated RM50,000 each to work on enhancing women’s activities, ideas, and suggestions to empower the community.

“Nancy Shukri, the minister for women, family and community development, will make the decision of the 100 individuals,” said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the celebration of International Women’s Day 2024 here tonight.

He added that the 100 women’s champions do not have to be affiliated with any political party or even any association.

“If this programme is a success then later on I can increase the number of participants and also the allocation.”

Nancy said she would ask for women’s empowerment initiatives to be doubled, especially in terms of economic equity.

“Women make up nearly 50% of Malaysia’s population and are a group at higher risk of being marginalised when facing economic or social challenges,” she said.

“Every ringgit spent, every minute allocated, every effort and level of dedication poured into the lives and well-being of women are a form of collective investment that is beneficial for Malaysia,” she said. - FMT
