Malaysians who do not update their data on the Central Database Hub (Padu) will have their basic information automatically registered, said the Statistics Department.
Chief statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin told a press conference today that more complete information is needed although various government agencies have collected basic data on Malaysians.
“In the Padu system, we have data for about 30 million Malaysians.
“However, this is only their basic data, which we have collected from various agencies. What we need is the ‘dynamic’ data,” he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
The deadline for the first round of Padu registrations will end at midnight today.
As of yesterday, about 10.6 million Malaysians have updated their data on Padu, Uzir said.
“This comes up to 48.3 percent of the 21.96 million Malaysians above the age of 18,” he added.
Padu was launched earlier this year as a centralised database to ensure subsidies are better disbursed, taking into account not only take-home pay but also the individual or household’s financial obligations.
The government said those seeking to receive welfare aid and subsidies must ensure that their details are up to date in Padu.
This includes children whose parents or guardians are meant to register the details on their behalf.
56pct nationwide target
In Selangor, Uzir said about 41 percent of the adult population has already registered on Padu.
“The states with the highest ratio of people who have updated their data on Padu are Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Negeri Sembilan.
“They have crossed the threshold of 50 percent,” he said.
He explained that the target is to reach 56 percent nationwide registration in the first phase of sign-ups.
Yesterday, Bernama reported the Statistics Department’s assurance that the design of Padu is the best while also being safe and effective.
It said that Padu not only functions as a data updating medium but also performs various main analytical functions, going beyond transactions and data updates.
