Pakatan Harapan Youth has raised concern over the second and latest firebomb attack on a KK Mart branch this morning.
In a joint statement, the youth chiefs of all four Harapan component parties said all forms of irrational acts not within the confines of law should be condemned.
“And any parties that continue to stoke and ride on the issue to the point of fueling extremist activities must be punished according to the law,” they said.
The joint statement is issued by DAP Youth chief Dr Kelvin Yii, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda and Upko Youth chief Felix Joseph Saang.
Further, they cited Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s decree for all parties to stop capitalising on the issue of socks printed with the word “Allah”, as the matter is already subjected to the legal process.
“We therefore urge all parties to remain calm and allow authorities to carry out their duties and take appropriate action to defuse matters before it becomes worse,” they said.
Separately, the DAP central executive committee said the two firebombings were a cause for concern, with the potential to fuel racial tension, unless handled carefully.
“Although the DAP CEC understands that the socks issue had hurt the feelings of Muslims, any action should be taken according to the law and not through violence.
“The DAP CEC urge authorities to carry out a thorough investigation on both the attacks so that the perpetrator can be brought to justice,” said the committee.
Earlier today, Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the second arson happened about 5am at KK Mart’s Sungai Isap outlet in Kuantan, Pahang.
Initial investigation revealed that an unknown number of perpetrators might have thrown the bomb from a distance to avoid being caught by KK Mart’s security camera.
This follows a failed arson attempt at another KK Mart outlet in Bidor, Perak, on March 26. - Mkini
