7 Bersatu turncoat reps not invited to PN convention

The six Bersatu MPs and one assemblyperson who have backed the government have been left out of the Perikatan Nasional elected representatives’ convention taking place in Kuala Lumpur, today.

This was confirmed by Bersatu information chief Razali Idris.

“We consider the representatives of the seven seats dead. Just wait for the elections.

“They are lackeys. Why do we need to invite them?” he asked.

Bersatu faced a crisis when seven of its elected representatives voiced support for the government, citing the well-being of their constituents, since last year.

The latest was Selat Klang state assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari, who once served as Selangor Bersatu chief. He announced his backing for Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari on Wednesday (March 6).

Previously, six MPs from the party backed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim without leaving Bersatu.

They were Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Defectors’ membership rescinded

Elaborating, Razali said the amendment to Bersatu’s constitution states that party representatives who do not follow the supreme council’s directives will cease to be members with immediate effect.

“The amendments apply to all members. Going by that (the amendments), the membership of the seven representatives is null.

“When they are no longer members (of Bersatu), their seats will also fall vacant,” he said.

Razali added that members who take the party’s internal issues to the court will also cease to be members.

The convention was attended by senior PN leaders including coalition chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and Gerakan president Dominic Lau.

Also present were Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, and Perlis Menteri Besar Shukri Ramli. - Mkini
