After PN convention, Muhyiddin confident no more departures

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said many from Selangor had distanced themselves from the action of Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari.

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said he is confident that no more MPs will leave the coalition, given the strong commitment demonstrated by all those who attended the PN convention today.

“Everyone present today has shown (their) commitment,” he said at a press conference after the convention.

“Many from Selangor came to see me, saying, “I am not the one, Tan Sri, I am not,” indicating they do not want to be associated with what has been done by the Selat Klang assemblyman Rashid,“ he said referring to Abdul Rashid Asari’s declaration of support for Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

Harapan Daily had later reported that assemblymen Muhaimin Harith Abdullah Sani (Batang Kali), Jamil Salleh (Dengkil), Harrison Hassan (Jeram) and Rosnizan Ahmad (Morib) were also expected to pledge their support for Amirudin, alongside Wan Dzanahurin Ahmad (Sungai Kandis).

However, all of them denied the report.

Muhyiddin said PN’s parliamentary position is strong and was bolstered by an amendment to Bersatu’s constitution that will lead to the seats of rebel MPs and assemblymen being vacated if they go against the party’s stand.

“This sends a significant signal to everyone within and outside,” said Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president.

Muhyiddin said he and senior party leaders would deliver the party’s constitutional amendment to the Registrar of Societies at 10am on Monday. “We will meet and I hope the registrar will give consideration towards approval of the amendments as soon as possible,” he said.

The amendment was introduced after six Bersatu MPs pledged their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

They are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan). - FMT
