Apology messages appearing on KK Super Mart electronic displays, cash registers

PETALING JAYA: KK Super Mart is displaying apology messages over the controversial sock issue on large electronic displays and cash registers at its outlets nationwide.

The apology message could be seen on large electronic screens, similar to those seen in its outlet at the Majulink building, located next to the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan in Kuala Lumpur.

"KK Super Mart would like to apologise to the Muslim communities for the Miranosock brand with the words 'Allah' on them.

"The company has taken immediate and decisive action by terminating the supplier, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd and is taking legal action against them. All products from this company are no longer available in the KK Super Mart network throughout Malaysia.

"Harmony in multi-religious and multi-ethnic communities is our objective. We regret the issue that occurred and sincerely apologise," read the message.

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh had on March 16 demanded that KK Super Mart hang banners at all 881 outlets nationwide,

This was after both KK Super Mart and the vendor of the socks involved, had issued an apology over the matter, adding that they had pulled all affected products off its shelves.

Muhamad Akmal has said that the apology was insufficient to "close the chapter" as it had upset Muslims. - Star
