Ex-Bersatu leader Faiz won't contest in PKR polls

Former Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman, who is now in PKR, does not wish to contest in his new party’s internal polls, which are expected to take place at the end of this year.

But he is ready to go to the ground and embark on an informational tour along with PKR’s machinery if needed, he said.

“I do not intend to run for any position in PKR so far because I am aware that there is a membership period set by the party.

“For a member to be eligible to contest, if I am not mistaken, they have to have been a party member for at least 18 months,” he told Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, Faiz reportedly confirmed his PKR membership and hinted that more Bersatu members of all levels will be joining him in the party.

“I can say here that the support declared for the Selangor menteri besar’s leadership by Selat Kelang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari is an early sign of this shift in support.

“As the party elections approach, I’m confident that individuals who have significantly contributed to the party will find themselves marginalised due to manoeuvring by the ‘cartel’ faction, ultimately leading to a substantial wave of dissent across all levels against Bersatu,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Meanwhile, he said he did not offer anything specific to PKR when he joined the party except for his determination to empower the party at the state or national level.

This was as long as the Federal Constitution and true Islamic teachings were not violated, he added.

“One of those efforts is explanation, clarification, counter-defamation, and dissemination of factual information on social media which is now quite popular among our citizens.

“I am also used to going to the mass media and there is no problem in going to the ground to do an informational tour if needed,” he said. - Mkini
