'Find another business, boycott continues', KK Mart told

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has suggested that KK Mart finds other business ventures as the boycott of the convenience store chain will not stop.

Speaking to reporters during an Umno breaking-fast event, he said many are unlikely to feel satisfied about the issue and he was simply voicing out the sentiments of Muslims in the country.

“Of course, this boycott will certainly continue until we truly feel satisfied. But I feel it will be difficult to feel satisfied.

“So I suggest to my friends at KK Mart, maybe look for other businesses because of the boycott.

“Let it be truly felt by every layer of society in Malaysia. And provide a very, very firm lesson to any party that tries to play with the 3R issue (race, religion, royalty),” he said.

When asked if the opposing views of ministers had any effect on him, Akmal said that he does not need anyone’s approval to defend the plight of Muslims.

“So, in my view, no one can prevent Umno Youth from defending religion, race, and the nation. Regardless of who it is, even if they are a minister,” he added.

Akmal also expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for backing his sentiments over the issue.

“We are on the right track and this shows that we can befriend anyone.

“But we have never, Umno has never compromised its principles of safeguarding Islam, the Malay race, and also our homeland,” he said.

Akmal’s stance supported

Earlier today, it was reported that Umno voiced its full support for the stance taken by Akmal on the socks controversy.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said a unanimous decision was made at the party’s supreme working council meeting.

Controversy erupted last week when a picture of socks with the word ‘Allah’ written on them at the KK Mart Sunway City convenience store went viral on social media.

Following the uproar, KK Mart issued an apology to all its customers, especially the Muslim community, and confirmed immediate action was taken to stop the sale of the socks.

That included terminating its contract with Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, a supplier company based in Batu Pahat, Johor. - Mkini
