Investigation paper on Hadi submitted to AGC, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has confirmed that the investigation paper on a remark by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang last month has been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action.

Speaking to Berita Harian, Razarudin said the police are awaiting instructions from the AGC on the case.

On Tuesday, the police spent an hour recording the Marang MP’s statement at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

This was after Razarudin confirmed that Hadi was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 over his published statement last Feb 20 on upholding Islam where he allegedly addressed several parties, including Malay rulers.

Following the Federal Court’s decision to nullify the validity of Kelantan’s 16 syariah criminal provisions, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who was also chairperson of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs, urged all quarters to remain calm and respect the ruling.

Despite the call, Hadi seemed unbothered and reiterated his statement, reminding all Muslims to safeguard their faith, including judges, lawyers, and politicians.

“What more, rulers, to have the vision, to be wise in viewing the hereafter, and not just the interests in this world alone,” he had said.

Following Hadi’s post, the Selangor ruler in a statement reminded Hadi against issuing remarks that could cause division among Muslims in the country.

In the statement shared on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, the ruler expressed his disappointment and said the remark was uncivilised and unsuitable from the cultural angle of the Malays who always respect and guard their manners when airing their views and advising the Malay rulers.

Hadi responded with a letter of gratitude to the Selangor ruler before he was questioned by the police on Tuesday (Mar 5).

However, the letter’s contents were not disclosed to the public. Hadi’s special officer and Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman also declined to reveal further details. - Mkini
