Former Umno information chief Isham Jalil has lodged a police report against Farhash Wafa Salvador over an alleged investment worth nearly RM40 million in a company shortlisted for a government contract.
Isham (above) said the former political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should come clean on where he got the money to become a substantial shareholder of HeiTech Padu Bhd.
“Firstly, if he is investing in HeiTach Padu, it is a big bet (investment). So, is this bet based on any prior information that he has?” Isham asked during a press conference after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today.
Last week, The Straits Times reported that Farhash has emerged as a substantial shareholder of technology services provider HeiTech Padu, which is in the running for a billion-ringgit immigration system deal.
The report also stated that Farhash and his partner have acquired a 4.97 percent stake in Theta Edge, a competitor of HeiTech Padu.
Farhash has dismissed concerns of “crony capitalism” following the report.
Elaborating, Isham said he would lodge another report with the MACC, alleging the matter may involve elements of misuse of power.
In addition, he had also written to the Securities Commission to check on possible elements of insider trading.
“Reports on the matter are necessary as it involves RM1 billion of public funding.
“We are also concerned if there are any elements of money laundering. If there are, the police have to investigate.”
'Give us answers'
A few days ago, Isham uploaded a video on his TikTok channel, titled “Kroni Anwar beli saham syarikat disenarai pendek kontrak imigresen RM1 bilion?” (Anwar's crony purchases shares of company shortlisted for RM1 billion immigration contract?)
The video racked up more than a million views before it was deleted.
Subsequently, Farhash sent Isham a letter of demand over the video.
In response, Isham said instead of sending him a letter of demand, Farhash should just answer his question on how he acquired RM40 million to invest.
“I’m asking (him), the public is also asking about where he got the money. Just answer us.
“The public deserves to know as it is a big government contract,” he stated.
Isham claimed that despite not holding any position, Farhash still wields a huge influence in the country’s political scene.
Based on his own experience when he was part of the government, Isham said that any government contract valued at more than RM50 million must go through the Finance Ministry, of which Anwar is the minister.
“The contract relates to immigration, which falls under the Home Ministry. The home minister is Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is also from PKR. So, we are seeking (for answers).”
Malaysiakini has reached out to Farhash and is now awaiting a response.
