'Jangan cabar Islam' notes scattered outside Nga's parents' house

Copies of a note warning Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming not to challenge Islam were scattered outside his parents’ residence in Ayer Tawar, Perak.

Nga’s mother, who discovered the “Jangan cabar Islam” notes, has since lodged a police report.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Nga, who is in Hong Kong on an official trip, said he would leave the matter to the police.

However, the minister told those behind the incident not to trouble his family, especially his elderly parents.

Previously, Molotov cocktails were thrown into the house of Nga’s cousin, Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham, which is also located in Ayer Tawar.

In a statement later, Manjung district police chief Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said his team received a report from Nga’s 76-year-old mother regarding the incident at 10.15am.

“The complainant stated that she saw a lot of papers with the writings in question while leaving the house at 7.30am.

“The complainant believes that the words have bad intentions. Accordingly, efforts are being made to track down the suspect. The cause of the incident is not yet known,” Nordin said.

‘Don’t speculate’

Nordin added that the case is being probed under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation through anonymous communication, which is punishable with imprisonment for a maximum period of two years, or a fine, or both.

“The police also advised the public not to make any speculations that could affect the investigation.

“People who have any information can contact the investigating officer Fariq Nazmi Mohd Mustafa at 013-3317099 to help with the investigation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nga’s mother, who declined to be named, expressed regret and concern over the incident.

“There are about 40 pieces of paper and all of them have the same note. My husband and I lodged a report at the Ayer Tawar police station as we are worried and afraid if something untoward happens,” she told Berita Harian.

She also said she and her 86-year-old husband wanted a peaceful life like everyone else and hoped not to be targeted by hate politics.

“We live in a ‘low profile’, this kind of incident also happened a few years ago.

“Politics is politics, please don’t use this method to threaten parents,” she said. - Mkini
