PARLIAMENT | Kedah Agro Holdings will be paying out around RM560,000 in outstanding salaries to 24 workers before the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, according to Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
Sim said a Kedah Agro Holdings board meeting on Sunday also decided to cease operations of the Menteri Besar Incorporated subsidiary.
“Therefore all termination benefits and salaries in lieu of notice will be paid in three months from March,” the Bukit Mertajam MP told the Dewan Rakyat during Minister’s Question Time today.
“Workers have been advised to file a labour case against their employers and the Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) will open an investigation under Section 19 of the Employment Act 1955 for late salary payments.
“If convicted, employers can be fined under Section 99A of the same Act, not more than RM50,000 for every charge,” he said in response to Aminolhuda Hassan (Harapan-Sri Gading).
Earlier, Sim reiterated JTKSM’s commitment to investigate all complaints within 21 days after a report has been lodged.
Last week, MBI Kedah CEO Zafir Annuar Ghazali said discussions will be held with the state government regarding Kedah Agro Holdings’ operations while the company seeks new business opportunities. - Mkini
