Nepali guard recognised for returning bag with RM500,000

The security guard who found and returned a bag containing over RM500,000 at a car park of a shopping mall in Damansara has received a gift and an award from his employer.

According to the New Straits Times, Nepali Sherpa Dawa, 39, received recognition from Hardeep Singh Jaswant, the director of security company A5 Security Service.

"We greatly appreciate his loyalty to the company and his honesty. They have received adequate training - they know what to do because they do want to take risks.

"It is a substantial amount, and we greatly appreciate what our guard has done, and that is why we are rewarding him today," NST quoted Hardeep as saying.

Dawa, who has worked in the company for four years, said he decided to report his findings to the shopping centre's management and the authorities, as he felt committed to his responsibilities, and trust placed on him.

"When I found it, I didn't feel afraid at all because we had received training from the company, and then I knew I had a responsibility.

"I didn't think about how much money it was, we just do our job," the honest guard said.

Police inquiry

On Thursday, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the police are opening an inquiry on the discovery of the money on Wednesday morning.

He said the luggage bag contained RM10, RM50 and RM100 banknotes totalling more than RM500,000.

“We believe the money is real, but we will check with Bank Negara Malaysia. No CCTV cameras were pointing to where the bag was left,” Hussein told a press conference.

He urged those who lost the money to present themselves at the Petaling Jaya and substantiate their ownership. If there are no claims, the money will be handed to the court for further action. - Mkini
