BAGAN DATUK: The government is acquiring land to develop a new township here called Bandar Baharu Bagan Datuk to expand the district’s potential, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
All federal and state government offices in the district, including the district police headquarters, will move to the new township when it is completed.
He said a site covering 385 acres (155 hectares) is being acquired.
Zahid, who is the local MP, said the development of the new township was in line with Bagan Datuk being the newest district in Perak as there was no more space for development in the existing town.
He said more than RM500 million had been allocated for the construction of a flyover to reduce congestion in Pekan Simpang Empat, Hutan Melintang, especially during peak times and festive holidays. It will connect the four-lane road from Simpang Empat to Bagan Datuk, a project that was previously cancelled. - FMT
