PN meets to get everyone on same page

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the convention would discuss the coalition’s 2024 agenda.

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders and elected representatives are meeting in a closed-door convention today to explain the opposition coalition’s stance on current issues, a PAS leader said.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the convention will also feature the PN leadership delivering their message to the MPs and assemblymen.

“It (the convention) is also a platform for us to share our experience in managing our service centre without funds,” he told FMT, referring to the lack of development allocations for the opposition.

Opposition MPs have complained of not receiving an equal amount of constituency development funds as provided to government MPs.

In November, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said he had met with deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof twice to discuss the relevant allocations before announcing the decision to suspend negotiations on the matter.

The lack of funds for the opposition has led to six Bersatu MPs pledging their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government “for the sake of their constituents”.

Tuan Ibrahim also said the convention will discuss the other challenges faced and how to improve their work flow.

“The convention is also aimed at strengthening the ties among the leadership nationwide and explaining their respective roles to the elected representatives.”

Last month, FMT reported that the relationship between PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his Bersatu counterpart, Muhyiddin Yassin turned cold following the latter’s U-turn on defending his presidency at the Bersatu polls.

Tuan Ibrahim has since denied that ties between the two party chiefs were frosty, adding they were in fact very close.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the convention, which had been planned ahead, was to discuss the coalition’s plans for 2024 and on carrying them out efficiently.

He said the convention would also discuss how PN can provide a check and balance to the government on several issues, including on cost of living issues.

“This retreat is to plan in terms of policy, approaches, issues, arguments and campaign, so that we can move in sync,” he said. - FMT
