PN must find ways to win over non-Malays, says Muhyiddin

Muhyiddin Yassin said non-Malay support for Perikatan Nasional may rise by 5 to 10% if it strategises well.

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) must find ways to win the support of non-Malay voters, says its chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said PN needs to adopt a fresh approach in engaging with the non-Malays and if successful, their support for the coalition could potentially increase by 5 to 10%.

“With this, I believe in the 16th general election (GE16), we will secure nearly all the mixed seats that we previously had less support in,” he said in his closing speech at the special convention for PN elected representatives.

“And this will further strengthen our position in GE16.”

Muhyiddin added that they already have strong support from the Malay community but stressed the importance of expanding support beyond this demographic.

PN secured a total of 74 seats at the 2022 general election, just eight seats behind Pakatan Harapan.

Muhyiddin also said the coalition’s Supreme Council had agreed to hold a nationwide tour after the fasting month to highlight the various issues faced by the people and what PN can do to help alleviate the people’s plight.

“Many, including Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman from Muda, have suggested we do this, and he is ready to participate,” Muhyiddin said.

Muhyiddin also said the Malaysian Indian People’s Party must increase its membership and expand its branches and divisions before it can be considered for membership of PN. - FMT
