PETALING JAYA: Police detained 5,041 people for various drug-related offences and seized drugs worth more than RM324,000 in the nationwide Op Tapis Khas 2, which ran from Monday to yesterday, Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department (NCID) director Khaw Kok Chin said.
He said the arrests were made at 3,727 locations throughout the country, including at Felda and Felcra settlements, people’s housing projects (PPR) and fishing villages, and involved 2,340 police officers, Bernama reported.
“A total of 5,352 people were screened during the op and 5,041 of them, aged 14 to 80, were detained for various offences.
“Some 497 were drug peddlers or traffickers, including a civil servant and a student. A further 2,855 were drug addicts, including four civil servants.
“There were also 186 people on the wanted list for drug-related offences and 1,503 for other offences,” he said in a statement today.
Khaw said various types of drugs were seized, including heroin (2.6kg), syabu (2.6kg), ketamin (400gm), ganja (1.1kg), erimin-5 pills (400gm), ecstasy powder (7.1kg), ketum leaves (20.9kg) and 625 litres of ketum juice.
He said police also seized RM110,000, vehicles worth a total of RM596,000, jewellery totalling RM164,000 and a RM500 watch. - FMT
