Purported owner of RM500k found in mall fails to come forward

A company director who claimed to own a luggage bag containing over half a million ringgit, which was found in a shopping mall recently, has not claimed the money.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the director, a man in his late 40s, has also failed to provide his statement at the Damansara police station.

“To date, only one report was received at 11.30pm last Thursday (March 21) claiming that the money was business funds.

“The Damansara police station chief has called the complainant to provide a statement but the person failed to appear, citing various reasons such as attending meetings and illness.

“There have been no new developments in the investigation,” he was quoted as saying by Scoop.

On Wednesday (March 20), a security guard reportedly found a pink and white luggage bag containing the cash in the car park of a mall in Damansara, Selangor.

The next day, Hussein told a press conference that the bag contained RM10, RM50, and RM100 banknotes totalling more than RM500,000.

Meanwhile, the security guard, Sherpa Dawa, received an award from his employer, A5 Security Service, for his actions.

In a Facebook post, the company congratulated the 39-year-old Nepalese national for his honesty.

“We are proud to share that our dedicated security officer, Mr Sherpa Dawa, has been recognised and honoured for his exceptional integrity and honesty.

“Mr Dawa’s unwavering commitment to his duty and remarkable display of honesty have not gone unnoticed,” said the security company. - Mkini
