Sanctity of Allah transcends business interests, Akmal tells Mydin boss

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has reminded Mydin supermarket owner Ameer Ali Mydin that the sanctity of the word Allah is a matter of faith that transcends the need to safeguard the economic interests of the rich.

If Mydin had also sold socks bearing the word Allah, he said Umno Youth would boycott them just the same as KK Mart.

"This is not the first or second time. This has happened many times and this time it hurts the hearts of Muslims in this country.

"So, what's wrong if strict action, such as a boycott, is imposed on these vagabonds?

"This is actually an issue of faith, Ameer, I want to tell you it is far more significant, far more paramount than talking about economic profits only,” he said in a video posted on social media today.

"Is it (enough) with just an apology, doing wrong then apologising, after that, we are satisfied because we want to protect the economy, want to protect these tycoons?" he added.

Akmal reiterated that this was not an issue about KK Mart in and of itself or a Chinese issue, but an issue about KK Mart insulting Islam.

Yesterday, Ameer accused Akmal of exploiting the socks issue.

"Why blow it up even more?

"Political parties should stay away from 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues, if it has happened we don't want to fuel the fire further… add kerosene," Ameer was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

‘No compromise’

Akmal also responded to former minister Rafidah Aziz's call for Muslim politicians to emulate the exemplary restraint shown by Prophet Muhammad when confronted with bad individuals.

Akmal said, although what she said was true, there was no compromise when Islam was insulted.

"It's true what (Rafidah) claimed, that during the Prophet Muhammad's era a gentle approach was taken, but remember when their religion was insulted at that time, there was no forgiveness," Akmal added. - Mkini
