Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has relinquished his role as the chairperson of the Malaysian National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI).
His Highness has chaired the MKI for a tenure of almost two years, since March 10, 2022.
According to a social media post by the Selangor Royal Office, the sultan said he would leave it to the Conference of Rulers to choose a new chair from among the Malay rulers.
During his last meeting in the role, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his appreciation to the committee members and the secretariat for their cooperation during his time as chairperson.
His Highness also expressed gratitude for the commitment shown by the council members, state representatives, and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), as the secretariat, in carrying out their duties effectively. - Mkini
