Tengku Zafrul to file police report over misconduct allegation

International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz intends to respond to a video being circulated that alleges misconduct by filing a police report.

In a response to Malaysiakini, Zafrul, who is accompanying Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on a visit to Australia, said he will file a police report upon his return to Malaysia.

“There is a video that has been circulated on social media implying something untoward about my attendance at a product launch in 2023.

“I accepted the invitation in good faith, and our team had no prior knowledge of the alleged or implied impropriety that was raised in the video.

"As such, my team has begun investigations on this matter, and I will lodge a police report as soon as I’m back in Malaysia so official investigations can begin,” said Zafrul.

He also urged anyone with evidence of any wrongdoing to make a report to the relevant authorities.

This follows a social media post in which an unidentified man claims that he was paid RM800 to act the part of a chief executive officer by a company in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) scam signing involving Zafrul himself.

The man goes on to claim that the company used the fraudulent MoU to raise RM36 million.

He claimed employment with a top advertising firm and showed a photograph of himself with jailed ex-premier Najib Abdul Razak.

He directs the video to the attention of Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who is Anwar’s senior political secretary and also claims to have tried to engage Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli over the matter. - Mkini
