Umno Youth mulls action against leader accused of sex assault

Umno Youth is considering taking disciplinary action against one of its divisional leaders in Johor who has been accused of sexual assault.

The wing’s chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the case would be brought up in an upcoming meeting that will take place before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Perhaps we will suspend him first pending prosecution and defence. If proven guilty, then we will seek stern action because we don’t compromise and have never compromised on crime [...] We will take temporary action pending the outcome of the prosecution.

“If he is truly guilty, then we will have his membership terminated,” he told reporters after attending Umno’s breaking of fast event at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Previously, it was reported that a Johor Umno Youth leader was expected to be charged in court over allegations of sexual assault against several teenage boys.

At least six boys were said to be the victims.

It was reported that the suspect was arrested on Monday (March 18) after police reports were lodged accusing him of sexually assaulting one boy.

Police said six teenagers have come forward to lodge a police report claiming the politician had sodomised them.

Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros told Malaysiakini the party’s wing is following the case closely and will leave it to the authorities to conduct the necessary actions.

On the suspect’s membership status, Azleen said he will have to refer to the party’s constitution and national leadership on the next measure that will be taken against the leader.

“As of now, I will let the authorities do their work and let the law and the process take its course,” he added. - Mkini
