Tagging Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam, MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon shared on social media an old video of DAP candidate Pang Sock Tao deriding BN.
“This is the speech by DAP’s candidate for (the) Kuala Kubu Baharu (by-election). What is your view?” he asked.
“Until now, still criticising BN and blaming everything on BN.
“There is no end to chastising BN and criticising MCA,” he added, reiterating MCA’s position not to campaign for the DAP candidate.
Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is also Perikatan Nasional’s election director, also shared Ling’s (above) post.
Yesterday, Lokman urged MCA to decide on its position in the coalition government.
“When we (BN) decide to be in a team, we must show that we are a team player.
“If they (MCA) want to be treated fairly, they must also contribute to strengthening the unity government,” he said.
The video shared by Ling was from the campaign period during the last general election where Pang, who is an aide to DAP leader Nga Kor Ming, was speaking at a ceramah.
At the time, she said the people had lost confidence in Malaysia because of BN’s rule, adding that it left Malaysians with a sense of hopelessness.
Is MCA backing PN?
In a related development, MCA Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung, who is pursuing her doctorate studies in China, stated on social media that she would be returning for the May 11 polls and reminded voters not to cast their ballots for the “rocket” which is DAP’s symbol.
DAP central executive member Lee Chin Chen took both the MCA Youth leaders to task over their respective postings.
On the issue of the video, Lee said Ling appeared to be suffering from “amnesia” because it is common knowledge that Pakatan Harapan and BN were rivals during the last general election.
“He (Ling) is displaying his ignorance by sharing an old video. Everyone knows about the situation then. But rivalries were set aside to form the coalition government for the larger goal of national development,” he told Malaysiakini.
Lee also accused Ling of editing the video and including subtitles in Bahasa Melayu to create discord within the coalition government.
“He is assisting PN’s election campaign and this seems to be working since the Kedah MB has shared the post,” he added.
Similarly, Lee said Saw telling voters not to back the DAP candidate could also be construed as aiding PN. - Mkini
