Umno Selangor information chief Mohd Zaidi Md Zain has urged Investment, Trade And Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz to refrain from making statements that could negatively affect the party’s state chapter.
Zaidi said such statements seemed to hint at a hidden agenda that Zafrul had against them and also seemed to have missed out on the latest update on the state chapter’s activities after suffering defeat in the last general election.
He also claimed that in a meeting held by the party chapter yesterday, Zafrul’s political aide Zainuri Zainal - who is Umno Klang division chief - was unaware of the allegation made by his boss.
“The Kota Raja Umno division deputy chief also confirmed that Zafrul had never discussed the matter before issuing the statement, even though they attended an Umno event together that was held a day before his statement,” he said as reported by Berita Harian.
Earlier this week, Zafrul announced his resignation as the Selangor Umno treasurer, claiming that the state chapter had deviated from the aspiration of the party’s central leadership.
However, the minister is maintaining his position as Kota Raja Umno division chief and as an appointed supreme council member.
Strengthen party with grassroots
Zaidi, who is Umno Bangi division chief, said all 18 division chiefs and three deputy chiefs, including Kota Raja, unanimously agreed to support state party chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin’s leadership during the meeting held yesterday.
“Everyone who attended the meeting expressed their disappointment over Zafrul’s baseless and far-from-factual allegations,” he added.
He also said Zafrul should engage with him face-to-face instead of giving statements through the media.
“We advise Zafrul to stop issuing statements that could not only humiliate himself but also confuse party members,” he said.
Zaidi added instead of just enjoying the fruits of labour produced by the party’s sincere lower-ranking members, Zafrul should join them in strengthening the party. - Mkini
