PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has rejected Sanusi Nor’s representations seeking the dismissal of two sedition charges brought against the PAS leader.
Deputy public prosecutor Masri Daud confirmed the matter when the case was mentioned at the Shah Alam High Court, Berita Harian reported.
Sanusi, the Perikatan Nasional election director, maintained his plea of not guilty after the case was transferred from the Selayang sessions court to the Shah Alam High Court on Feb 1.
The charges concern remarks he made about the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the establishment of the unity government at a political talk.
Sanusi, who is also the Kedah menteri besar, is charged with committing the offence at Simpang 4 in Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm on July 11, 2023.
The charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, punishable under Section 4(1) of the same act, carry a fine of RM5,000, a maximum jail sentence of three years, or both, upon conviction.
The trial will begin on July 22 and go on until Aug 13. - FMT
