PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hopes the immigration department can address congestion at the country’s borders, particularly at airports.

In a Bernama report, Anwar said tourists would not accept excuses for delays and hoped the issue could be dealt with immediately.

“Malaysia has become a popular (tourist) destination with an increase of up to 80% (in travellers) in the first few months of this year, which has undoubtedly put pressure on government agencies,” he said at the home ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Putrajaya.

In his speech at the same event, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail acknowledged that there was room for improvement.

He said several “game-changing” measures aimed at reducing congestion would be announced soon. - FMT
