Police arrested a 35-year-old man early this morning after he tried to snatch a firearm during an altercation at the Dato Keramat police station.

Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad confirmed the incident, saying that the man was trying to see his “friend” at the police station.

However, he was denied entry as he was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, which led to an altercation with police personnel.

“He did not break into the police station to seize guns. He was trying to see a friend but was refused as he was under the influence.

“There was some altercation when one of the officers tried to stop him from entering the police station,” he told Malaysiakini.

Malaysiakini also sighted a police report stating the man sustained a minor injury due to the altercation and is being treated at Penang Hospital.

Police also confiscated the man’s helmet to help with the investigation.

Earlier today, Sin Chew Daily reported that a man broke into the Dato Keramat police station in an attempt to seize a submachine gun.

This happened just days after two police officers were killed and another was injured in an attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor.

In that attack, it was reported that three were killed - police officers Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, as well as the 21-year-old suspect.

An injured police personnel, Mohd Hasif Roslan, was reported to be in stable condition at the Sultan Ismail Hospital. - Mkini
