The Johor Bahru High Court allowed the prosecution’s criminal revision bid to impose a gag order against Bersatu information bureau committee member Chegubard, whose real name is Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
When contacted this morning, the accused’s counsel Rafique Rashid Ali confirmed that the High Court allowed the prosecution’s revision bid, which targeted the Sessions Court refusing the gag order bid.
On April 30 before the Johor Bahru Sessions Court, Badrul claimed trial to charges of issuing seditious remarks related to the project.
He was alleged to have made seditious remarks on his Facebook account under the name “Che GuBard” at Mutiara Villa Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur at 6.30pm, four days earlier (April 26).
The charge is framed under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000, jail of up to three years, or both.
The lower court allowed bail of RM10,000 in one surety and denied prosecutors’ bid for the gag order.
The case is set for further mention before the Sessions Court on June 24. - Mkini
