Loss in KKB polls should be a 'wake-up call' for PN: Syahredzan

Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao’s victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election should serve as a wake-up call for Perikatan Nasional, said Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan.

The DAP central executive committee member praised Pang’s victory and highlighted it as a testament to the people’s continued trust in the Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari-led Selangor government, and the federal administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“On the other hand, PN, from the outset, sought opportunities for victory by exploiting issues of race and religion.

“PN leaders played up issues such as vernacular schools, religion, the candidates’ ethnicity, and the sentiment of ‘Malay loss of power’ during the campaign.

“Furthermore, the PN machinery offered nothing appealing to the Kuala Kubu Baharu voters and only brought controversy over the 3R issue,” he said in a statement today.

Syahredzan underscored the importance of unity and inclusivity in politics, noting that Pang’s cross-ethnic support demonstrates the effectiveness of such politics.

He criticised PN’s divisive tactics during the campaign, stating that the opposition coalition’s focus on issues such as vernacular schools and racial sentiments failed to resonate with voters.

“This defeat should serve as a wake-up call to PN to abandon the divisive and toxic politics they often employ.

“It is clear that such politics yield diminishing returns and are unable to capture states like Selangor or the country,” he added.

Syahredzan urged PN to reassess its approach, emphasising the need for a politics of moderation and inclusivity to garner support from all segments of society. - Mkini
