PETALING JAYA: The Selangor water management authority (Luas) has placed six bags of activated carbon (AC) powder to remove the odour after an oil spill on a highway in Kota Seriemas, Negeri Sembilan, which made its way into Sungai Labu, Sepang, yesterday.

In a statement, Luas said the team was still monitoring the situation following the detection of oil near the intake point of the Sungai Labu water treatment plant (WTP).

As of 11.30pm yesterday, no new oil readings had been recorded at the site.

“Proactive measures have also been taken through the placement of six bags of AC at key drainage locations in Negeri Sembilan, to help mitigate the lingering odour,” Luas said.

“The team is diligently conducting ground-level assessments to monitor the situation.”

Yesterday’s incident involved an oil spill along a highway in Kota Seriemas, Negeri Sembilan, which subsequently contaminated the river stream.

Traces of oil were discovered at the intake point of the Sungai Labu WTP, prompting the activation of a yellow code at 7.45am in accordance with Luas’s water pollution emergency manual. - FMT
